“Wretch” is a song filled with broken rhythms, satiety, indifference, ego, self-admiration, and reflections on the essence of wretchedness. It is, first and foremost, a self-accusation song, a way to reject excuses and honestly look at oneself in the mirror. It is also a challenge for the listener to do the same. The first step to solving a problem is to acknowledge its existence. However, some still prefer to conclude that only the absence of a crown on their head makes them wretched.

Musically, the song was inspired by the work of Tomahawk and other projects related to Faith No More, such as Mr. Bungle and Fantomas, and contains 5/8 time signature sections to turn up the absurdity level. The vocal melody ingeniously finds its way between these rhythms and choppy guitar riffs to merge with them in the culmination of the track.
